Kasauli
One of the small towns developed by the British during the 'hey day' of the empire, and reached by a branch road from Kalka-Shimla
road, the little town of Kasauli lies
curled along the heights of the first
major row of hills. Kasauli is a
cantonment town and has an Air Force
Station. Kasauli has a TV Tower.
Besides the Upper and Lower Malls,
Monkey Point is a major attraction.
Shimla and upper hills can be viewed
from Kasauli.
Kasauli itself seems to live in a delightful time warp that belongs to a century
now gone. Its narrow roads wander up and down the hillside and offer some of the finest views of the area. Standing
majestically
above all the lower hills is the peak of Choor Chandni (Choor Dhar).
Monkey-Point
The highest point in Kasauli called Monkey point is just 4 Km from Kasauli bus stand. The Monkey Point commands an excellent
view of distant plains of Chandigarh region and the river Satluj tracing a silvery trail through the scene.
A small temple is also situated on the top of the hill which is dedicated to Lord Hanuman.
According to legend at the Ramayana
when Lord Hanuman returning from Himalayas after obtaining Sanjivany Booty (Magical Herb) touch the hill by his foot thus top
of the hill is foot shape. On a clear and starry night the gorgeous view of Chandigarh can be seen from the Monkey point
Sanawar
Sanawar is just 6 Km from Kasauli and houses one of the best schools in the country. The Lawrence school which is
more than one hundred
sixty years old and is the first
co-educational boarding school in India.
Dharampur
Dharampur is situated on the National Highway No. 22 amidst the healthy air of the fragrant pines.
Dharampur railway station is part of the
Kalka-Shimla route and throughout the
day, World Heritage Toy Train and Rail
Cars halt at Dharmapur. Barog Tunnel is
a major attraction in this route which
has 103 tunnels between Kalka to Shimla.
Popular temples like Mansa Devi Mandir,
Pracheen Shiv Mandir and Thakur Dwara
are located in Dharampur.
Dagshai
Another little cantonment at an altitude of 1925 Meters just 19 Km from Kasauli. Accessible by a link road which divert from Dharampur. Dagshai is perched on a small
hill and there are military public school and military barrecks. This is ideal place to visit.
Subathu
A little cantonment town has a Gurkha fort built in the early year of the 19th century is situated at an altitude of 1437 meters. A Cantonment
town which quartered British soldiers in the time of british Empire. A Diversion road from Dharampur leads to the Subathu town.
Chail
The little settlement of Chail is built over three hills. The Palace Hotel crowns the Rajgarh Hill, the Sidh Baba ka mandir is
atop the Sidh hill, while the third is Pandva hill. Chail has a famous cricket ground at 2444.4 m and is one of the highest pitches
in the world. Chail is around 55 Kms from
Shivalik Hotel.
Renuka Ji
The Renuka Ji lies in the low
Shivalik hills that form the outer fringes of the Himalayas mountains.
Fed by underwater springs and
with a circumference of 2.5 kms, this is the largest lake in Himachal.
Renuka's attractions include the temples of
Renuka and Parashuram.
To reach Renukaji it tales about 2-3 hrs
from the Hotel.
Boating, Lion Safari and Zoological Park
are some of the major tourist
attractions.
